Hundreds attend Etnies Demo

Monday, 24 October 2011 14:40 by WSP

It couldn't have been a nicer day for the Etnies tour to stop in Wilmington on their Etnies Goes East tour featuring top Pro Ryan Sheckler. At least 200 people were in attendance and happy to get a chance for pics with the skaters and even skate along with them before thinning out to watch the whole etnies team demo. Other notable local skaters in attendance were Brannon John, Willy Akers and Jimmy Mcdonald.

Skatepark ordinance renewed

Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:52 by WSP

On August 25th , The City of Wilmington City Council passed ordinances – 11-037 & 11-038 for funding of the skateboard park.

http://www.ci.wilmington.de.us/government/councilagenda082511

This renews the ordinance that was originally passed in December of 2006.  The city still has to go to the bond market to acquire the money in hand.  We have inquired about when this will happen but have not heard to date.

Obviously we share in the frustration of how far behind we are as a community in acquiring these much needed facilities. However we are happy with successes in creating the East 7th street skate spot and advocating since 2003 for skateparks in New Castle County, with the Glasgow Skatepark currently being built.

You can still exercise your freedom to be heard and occupy your place in your government by contacting the city through its website to urge the pursuit of the bond money. http://www.ci.wilmington.de.us/

Many thanks to Brannon John for spearheading the 7th street effort and to the rest of the Kinetic crew, Tyler and the Switch crew, Jesse and the crew at Fifth Pocket Designs and many individuals.  Also thanks to NCC, Jon Husband and Councilman Tackett for keeping the Glasgow project alive.  For Real.
